A new direction

compass-801763_1280Lloyd’s Luscious began life as some fun labels on jars of preserves the Jam-maker (aka that husband-o-mine) created one Christmas three lifetimes ago. So well received were those early jars of Cherry-o-Baby and What’s Up Doc, that we thought we might be able to build a small backyard business around them. We made plans, designed labels, sourced bulk jars and started this blog, only to lose momentum when our proper jobs got busy. A year or two passed and we found ourselves in lovely Bundanoon; once again the idea of Lloyd’s Luscious tickled the backs of our consciousness. But settling into a new life takes focus and time and here it is nearly five years since the the Jam-maker and I, and our posse of fur-kids, settled into the old cottage on the paddock. Now it seems that perhaps finally Lloyd’s Luscious’ time has come.

The Jam-maker used to spend his days as a chemical engineer (and before that he was in the navy), but since our move from the big smoke he has reinvented himself once again, and now works as a professional cook. It has been hard though – restaurant cooking, any short order cooking for that matter, is tough, physically demanding work. The hours are fiendish. But he does LOVE to cook …

So Lloyd’s Luscious has emerged from the chrysalis of time, as a food business focussed on the production of a much broader range of ‘things that make you go mmmm’. No longer simply things in jars, the Jam-maker (as he will continue to be called within these pages) is busily creating a menu of ready-to-eat, heat-and-serve dishes for the good burghers of Bundanoon (and surrounds) to take home and enjoy. Things in jars are on the horizon… summer is coming and along with it the fruit for preserving.

For now though it’s curries, hearty stews, pastas and pies. Mouthwatering sweet indulgences. Meals for one, or two or a brood. The menus will change with the seasons. Lloyds Luscious will make its local debut at the next Bundanoon Makers Market on Sunday, 18 September. Wish us luck!
